P.S. Oh... you wanted to know why? ;) Okay, here goes.
1. Search engines love them, ie; traffic!
2. There's no coding! (newbies can get started fast)
3. People comment and interact. (repeat visitors)
4. They're fully customizable. (My fav theme is thesis by far)
5. There's a ton of plugins for cool stuff. (like social media, seo, etc.)
Now the big question. Which blogging platform is the best?
(Drumroll please....)
WordPress. Hands down. It's been proven to get the best rankings and be the most customizable. You can install a blog on your site through your cpanel in under a minute and change your theme in about 2 minutes.
The rest is up to you.
Now start blogging! ;)

Hey Mike,
I agree with you one everything except one. Thesis.
I was a Thesis fan, until I tried to find out how to update to the latest version.
No Problem you might say?
I have been to the forum site several times and entered my email for support, and nothing nothing nothing. And I purchased the full package the first time!
I have lost all respect for Thesis as a result, and have switched and invested in Socrates.
I guess that proves how important customer service is.

Hey, Mike…
What a HUGE RSS button you have there, buddy!
Let me know if it improved your RSS subscriptions, please?
Otherwise, although I know html & css and I can code my own web pages… I reckon I LOVE WordPress much more. Especially for the tons of plugins that add usability with a simple upload.
All kinds of plugins… security plugins, SEO plugins, management plugins, etc…
Very handy!

Dear Mike
I am afraid I disagree. I have roughly 30 wordpress blogs and html sites and have found that over time the html stick better in the rankings than the wordpress sites.
Yes I love wordpress for the ease of use, but I think overall give me an html site anyday for long term site ranking
Regards
Jen

Ok, for those who tuned in late, what the frak is a CPanel?
July 19, 2010 at 2:24 pm
Hey Mike
I have to agree with you – even as the ‘queen of techno green’ creating WordPress Blogs has been a cinch.
Yes Blogs are better and your five points above explains their effective simplicity just perfectly!

Hi Lorrette,
Thanks for the kind words. Coming from the ‘queen of techno green’ that means a lot!

Hey Matches,
Thanks for sharing your side and keeping it clean.
A CPanel is the ‘control panel’ in your hosting account. When you sign up with 90% of the hosting companies (like hostgator, hostmonster, liquid web, etc.) It’s a standard for them to give you access to a cpanel. (see image below) In it you can do a ton of really cool things, including set up a blog in a few minutes.
Do you already have a site or blog set up? If yes, who is your hosting company? If not, let me know if you need any direction for getting started.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the feedback.
I am surprised to hear that thesis didn’t get back to you. I agree 100% about the customer service being critical for any biz and wish others felt the same way we do.
Out of curiosity, did you try using a different email with their forum to make sure it wasn’t being filtered accidentally? The reason I ask is I recently had my server blacklisted from gmail for a few days and wasn’t getting any emails from them.

Hey Jen,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s always good to me to hear honest feedback like yours even if it goes against the flow.
I do have several html websites that rank well for years also (hence the reason I created One Hour Google) but what’ I’ve found out about wordpress is that sites rank faster for more terms, which means more traffic and more profit.
What’s your experience been?

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the kudos on my RSS button!
I’m still smiling about that…
The plugins are a huge deal for wordpress. Most marketers have no idea what they can do to save time, interact more with their readers, get more follow ups, etc.
I am gonna put out a list of ‘must have’ plugins in the near future and would love to hear your feedback about them.
