Hey,
when it comes to video, most of you have heard of YouTube & Camtasia. The point of this post isn’t to explain what they are, but rather to cover an important point about posting videos to your blog or website and I think my answer may surprise you…
So here goes!
Both of them are fairly straightforward to publish and in all honesty Camtasia, by default, produces a cleaner picture and has several really cool features, like auto start (when the page loads the video automatically starts playing), auto forward (when the video ends the visitor is automatically taken to a page you decide on, like an order page.)
So that means you should use Camtasia, then right..? Wrong.
All of those features are very important and great, but YouTube has a few things to consider as well.
First, their audience. Just by publishing your video to YouTube with the right tags (hint-hint) your video is now available to millions, which can bring BIG TIME traffic to your site.
Second, when you look around you can tweak your embedded videos on your site to do some of the cool tricks Camtasia does, like auto start.
Also, (and this is a big deal) mobil marketing is just starting to take off and more and more visitors will be seeing your site from their phone. This means, YouTube videos will show up fine, but Camtasia videos will prompt them to download the latest Flash player, which they can’t do…
So that means just do YouTube, right? Wrong.
First, anytime you ‘upload’ a video, leverage your time with Tube Mogul or Traffic Geyser. They let you submit once and it’s sent to several video sites, instead of one-by-one.
Second, why not put a nice clean (Camtasia) video 0n your sales page or download page (where people have either paid to get there or will be spending significant time to go through your offer and will probably be on a laptop or desktop vs a phone) and use YouTube for your blog and posts?
YouTube was the only way to put the video you see on the right on my blog in a lightbox, (the plugin is called Lightbox Plus) but to me it was worth it for the effect…
What do you think? Do you have another option or idea to share..?
